52.56 Miles in 2010

2.87 miles on the treadmill at the Rec this morning! I was the first one there, so I got my pick of machines today. I did c25k Week 2, then ran for 4 minutes (!), walked 2.5 minutes, ran 2.5 minutes, walked 5 minutes. I'll move up to Week 3 next time.

Nike+ Graph

Walked at 3.9
Ran at 4.8

It really takes me a while to feel good on the runs. The early ones are definitely the hardest.

View on the Treadmill

I've never really used a treadmill before. Here you can see (from left to right) my water, sweat towel provided by the rec, yellow sticky of the Week 2 intervals by time, ipod with Nike+ and my blackberry. I'm really liking the treadmill so far!

49.69 Miles in 2010

I felt like a total rock star after working out today. First, I totally didn't have time to go, but I did it anyway. Second, I had a headache, but I did it anyway. Third, I didn't have to wait for a treadmill at all. Fourth, I did good, y'all.

I went ahead and jumped ahead to c25k Week 2 today since Week 1 seemed pretty easy on Tuesday. After finishing the intervals, I just ran to see how long I could (then pushed to the next round number 'cause that's how I'm wired), and I made it 4 minutes! I know that doesn't sound long, but I am super-proud of myself. =)

47.22 Miles in 2010

I went to the Rec at lunch, and it was packed! It cleared out by around 12, so next time I'll go then. Since the treadmills were full, I started with 3.5 miles on the bike (= 1 challenge mile). Then I got on the treadmill and did Couch to 5K Week1 plus for 2.12 miles.

Here's the link to my Nike+ graph. I don't know why it doesn't show the intervals more clearly. I was switching between 3.8 (walk) and 4.7 (run).

Edited to say I fixed it. Thanks, Laura!

44.1 Miles in 2010

This morning, I went and joined the Rec Center in our town. Every time we check out a new service of the PARD, we are impressed, and today was no different. My fees for the year are $60, and if Bryan decides to join, it's only another $45. The downsides are that it is closed on Sunday and has no childcare. 24-Hour Fitness may get me, yet!

I had to wait for one of the three treadmills (cute old people walking!), so I did 2 miles (~.6 challenge miles) on the bike to warm up. Once my turn, I did the following:

Walk .25 miles
Nike+ Walk calibration for 0.5 miles
Nike+ Run calibration for 0.25 miles
..
3 intervals of:
Walk 0.25 miles
Run 0.25 miles
..
Walk 0.5 miles

For a total of 3 treadmill miles. Plus the .6 from the bike is 3.6 challenge miles.

Phone Photo Friday

How about a Phone Photo Friday over here?

My Nike+ secured in a baggie until I get my laces sleeve.

And again after two very muddy walks

Can I wash my running shoes without ruining them? Dry them?

40.5 Miles in 2010

Ok, so I figured out what I was doing wrong on the trail the other day. There are "points of interest" along the trail clearly marked with "1" and "2." Only those aren't the mile markers. *sigh* So Nike+ is giving me extra credit today because I calibrated it wrong yesterday.

I actually walked 2.5 miles today. And boy, was it windy! And muddy!

I should get my Nike+ laces sock before Saturday (next planned workout day), so I'll just wait on the calibration until then.

38 Miles in 2010

So I tried out my new Nike+ today. I tried to calibrate it by walking 1 mile on the trail that runs behind my house, but I don't think it worked right. According to the trail markers, I went 2 miles out, and 2 miles back (hence giving myself credit for 4 miles). According to Nike+, I did the 1-mile calibration, then another 2.01 miles. Oh, and I walked today.

I'm gonna have to find a treadmill.

I'm also going to have to work tonight, because I am spending too much time figuring out all the Nike+ stuff. I'm "lotsa98" as usual. Find me!

Edited to change to 2 miles of credit. See next post. Duh.

36 Miles in 2010

My Valentine worked all day, so I was able to squeeze in my 3 miles tonight (miles 5, 1, and 2). I am getting bored with this video and am ready to re-tackle c25k! I'll save this video as my "didn't get it done during the day so have to do something at home at night" backup plan.

After much hemming and hawing, I did spend the rest of my birthday money on a Nike + this weekend. Dick's was out of them (!), so I had to go to the Apple store. I HATE going to the Apple store. Hope it's worth it! I need to get a laces sleeve since my shoes are Addidas. I also need to hook the desktop back up to the internet (took apart my office to paint a couple of weeks ago), since that is the computer that has itunes. Maybe by the time I get all of these things done it will be warm enough for this Texas girl to get outside and run? (34-ish this morning... brr!)

Oh, and my ankle stayed a little sore after last Wednesday, so the extra rest was good. I also wore shoes (my old Sauconys) for the workout. I think it's the side-to-side motion without shoes that's bothering me. The shoes are not good cross-trainers, but I think it was better than nothing.

33 Miles in 2010

3 Walk-at-Home miles (2, 3, and 4) tonight. My left ankle is a little unhappy with me, but nothing too bad. I followed up the miles with 30 crunches and 30 butt-lifts (yes, that's a technical term!).

Then I sat on said butt and watched some TV! Woot for not working tonight!

30 Miles in 2010

3 Walk-at-Home miles tonight (miles, 4, 5, and 1). I also weighed-in on the Wii Fit, and I was essentially the same as two weeks ago (155 lbs).

And this is why it can't be about the numbers for me. It has to be about how I feel. Part of how I feel is how I look, but I really feel like that will take care of itself if I just keep going on a healthier track.

27 Miles in 2010

Let's just push that on down the page, shall we?

2 Walk-at-Home miles tonight (miles 2 & 3). My legs are tired. I can't decide if it's from doing 4 miles on Sunday or just PMS. =)

Overall, I'm feeling healthier already, and that is awesome.

BEFORE

So, this is not fun! At all!

I'm starting this year at roughly 155 lbs. By all measures I've seen, that's on the high end of normal for my height based on weight on BMI. I'm actually not in this whole "get in better shape" kick for the weight loss. If that happens... fabulous! But I really just need to be able to be in better shape and healthier. And I like my daily Dr. Pepper and weekly Taco Bueno.

I never want to be that girl that worries about little fluctuations in my weight. To that end, the only scale in our house is the Wii Fit. I had a friend recently freak out about 0.8 lbs of gain (!), and I honestly find that attitude kind of ugly. And if I know my husband at all, he would, too.

Speaking of my husband, right after he took these pictures for me, he said, "I love how you look." He's not perfect, but he got that one right!

Anyway, I have a thin frame. All of my fat (besides my face and upper arms) is in my belly and upper-upper thighs. I have very skinny legs, otherwise. So while 155 isn't "fat," I think it looks fat on me. It's all about distribution, right? And for historical perspective, I graduated high school at about 125 and got married at 135. I think 135-ish would be perfectly reasonable.

(I miss my nursing b00bs!) (And yes, that is a nursing bra, why do you ask?)
